Breeding goldfish is one of the best ways to improve your knowledge of goldfish. It helps you notice social habits, feeding patterns and phisical needs.

SPECIALIST FISH FOOD SHOP

Cleaning fry out

Clean fry out every day.Do this by either dipping a jam jar or cup into your tank and take out some water and carefully look and see if there are any little fish in there. If there are put it back and try again if you don't, tip it down the sink and put some new water in, or you can siphon a bit of water out but do not do this with out a sponge on they end. You need a special filter that will not suck the fish up but just clean it in the same way as other filters.

Goldfish eggs

Goldfish hatch from eggs, the eggs are round and are the same size as pin heads. The female lays loads of eggs at a time, then the male produces sperm to make the eggs fertile, the eggs look like jelly and stick to plants.

Feeding time

Newly hatched fry will not feed for the first forty eight hours. After this you will need to introduce a regular feeding regime. You can buy special goldfish fry food from a pet shop. You can also give your fish infursorium, which are microscopic organisms cultured from some lettuce or spinach leaves placed in water for three to five days. You can also give them brime shrimp which comes frozen and dried. Brine shrimp is one of the best sorts of food. Feed them this for about two weeks then go onto special fish flakes. Feed your fish twice a day make sure you sink the food otherwise they will get swim bladder problems.

Growing up

Goldfish get bigger as they grow into adults. Watch how big your fish grow, and make sure that your tank does not get overcrowded. Fish that are 7cm long are the best size for your tank. If your goldfish grow longer than 12cm they will need a very large tank and it is easer to find space for a pond. goldfish can grow very big in a pond.
